Why bike set-up is so important for cyclists

Bike Setup, Cycling, Ergonomics

You wouldn’t drive a car without correcting the mirror and chair position for your comfort. You may even alter the height and depth of your steering column. So why would you cycle your road bike without having a bike set-up?

An ergonomic bike set-up provides an opportunity to balance the requirements for performance with minimising the risks to the musculoskeletal system.

Aches and pains in the neck when cycling can result from the handlebars being too far forward, so causing you to overstretch or lose the shock absorption of slightly bent elbows.

A seat that is just too low will result in compression at the hip joint and so a loss of power and potentially a painful hip or lower back.

Our Cardiff Physios are experienced in not only the ergonomic assessment of your cycling position, but also of the postural issues that can result in injury with longer mileage.

So if you are cycling more or just have a new bike, give us a call or request a call back from one of our physios, who will be pleased to answer any questions you may have.
